Humus
Our fertilizers are valuable co-products of Verbio’s renewable natural gas (RNG) and bioethanol production processes. The Verbio biorefinery is a unique closed-loop system designed to maximize resource efficiency and ensure that nothing goes to waste. Through our innovative technology, we make the most efficient use of every raw material while minimizing our carbon footprint.
One of the key co-products of our RNG and ethanol production process is humus. Similar in appearance to peat moss or compost, Verbio Humus is a premium soil amendment that helps return organic matter and nutrients to the soil after harvest.
Humus is the dark, organic-rich component of soil that supports soil health and productivity. It consists of both organic and mineral materials that store nutrients, support beneficial microbial activity, improve water retention, and enhance soil resilience. Healthy soils with strong humus content promote root development, improve nutrient availability, and help crops achieve their full yield potential.

Applying humus in an active growing environment can help increase the soil biology and increase nutrient availability to the plant, and should help increase yields. It’s a general soil amendment to help the soil rehabilitate itself and regenerate its productive properties. Humus has no offensive odors, has incredible water holding capacity due to high concentration of lignin, and can be land applied in solid form using a typical manure spreader.
Liquid Fertilizers
With the launch of ethanol production at the Nevada, Iowa plant, Verbio now offers two additional sustainable liquid fertilizer products under the Verbio CropCare line.
Verbio CropCare ASL is a nitrogen and sulfur fertilizer derived from a digestion process of corn DDGs. Through this process, ASL is created as a highly plant-available fertilizer solution that can benefit a wide range of crops. ASL delivers a well-balanced nutrient profile with readily available sulfate sulfur and ammonium nitrogen. It is designed for easy application using standard crop sprayers.
Verbio CropCare NPK serves as a comprehensive, all-in-one fertilizer product. It provides the primary nutrients required for optimal plant growth and supports improved disease resistance as well as increased tolerance to water stress.
